Without thinking I took on a task. It was so limiting, I could do almost nothing. I had a look through my window and could find only clouds and a patch of black sky. “Why is it so?†I said, looking down at my floor. I couldn’t think of anything at all, so I shot downstairs. I found that I could unlock my front door and soon I was in City Road, standing on a bit of tarmac.
“Who did this?†I said, but nobody was around. “This is unusual†I thought, “How could it all stop so quickly without warning?â€
At last I had an opportunity to stop and think, so I sat down on a brick wall. “I might stay†I said, “but I also might go. Why is this my situation?†Without warning a man ran down this path. “Not you too!†this guy said, “This is too bad. Now you and your worry I must add to my own!†I didn’t know what this man was on about. “What you on about?†I said to him, wanting to ask and find out what was going on. It was all so unusual, I was hoping that a chap such as him would know a bit about it.
“Stop it!†this man said, “Stop trying to smash my mind to bits with your non-stop talk! This is just too muchâ€. And with that, this mad man said “I must go now!†and ran off towards town, and I was on my own again. I said aloud “I think I want it to stay as it is now. It’s just too difficult to do anything, or for any kind of communication to go on. “
“My task must waitâ€, I said “it’s just not practical to think of doing anything right now. I’ll just sit by this road and wait for things to stop buzzing in my mind. Soon this fizzing and cracking must stop and I will sit on my own and think happy thoughts again without all this pain and fuss.†From that point, it was as if I could only think black thoughts though. I was lost in my own dark abyss.
